Sounds like the shifter may be loose or the shifter bushings are worn out. You should be able to locate this under your civic where the shift rod attaches to the body. If it's loose then tighten it up but if the bushings are worn then replace it. Good luck.

The shifter will go into the 5-speed gear spots OK, but once it's in place I can wiggle the shifter like something is really loose! It's a little sloppy going into 3rd gear about 75% of the time, like it's nicking a gear, so I hear a quick grinding noise. When I shift into the rest of the gears it's fine. How do I tighten it up and is it something I really need to be worried about? It's a '93 Civic with 183,000 miles on it.

What is the trick to get the casing back together. We have expanded the snap ring. But the casing still feels that it is hanging up. Any suggestions??

A few of the service limits are off by a decimal place. Take the '2nd-To-3rd Gear Clearance'. The Service Limit is incorrectly listed as .13" (.33 mm). It should read .013″ (.33 mm). Otherwise good write up.
