Cam gear removal and installation applies to F20C powered Honda S2000 from 1999-2003.
CAM GEAR REMOVAL
- Remove the dipstick, positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose, and breather hose.
- Remove the ignition coil cover, then remove the ignition coils.
- Remove the cylinder head cover.
- Loosen the rocker arm adjusting screws.
- Remove the camshaft holders and camshafts.
- Hold the camshaft with an open-end wrench, then loosen the camshaft gear mounting nut.

- Remove the camshaft gear. The exhaust camshaft gear has a groove in the face. The intake camshaft does not have a groove.

CAM GEAR INSTALLATION
- Install the camshaft gear. When installing, note that the exhaust camshaft gear has a groove on its face.
- Apply new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft gear mounting nut, then install it.
- Hold the camshaft with an open-end wrench, then tighten the camshaft gear mounting nut.
